This week in my free Writing Talk post, I mentioned that I led an online writing group that is a relaxed hybrid between a social writing meet-up, where we spend a couple of hours on writing exercises, analysing stories, giving feedback on drafts, and general chat. It’s a really enjoyable thing to do, a small(ish) bringing together like-minded writers of short fiction who gather once a week to feel part of a supportive and sympathetic group. I’ve been thinking of creating a similar group for Substack Subscribers and Followers. There’s a small fee for each session or you can buy in blocks of five. In other words, how can we as writers, find the thing that will ignite or enthusiasm to work on stories or flash fictions that have been consigned to the bottom drawer and perhaps neglected or forgotten about.

So I thought I would create a writing task around this idea, using the one line prompts I have added below (or both!). The idea is to complete flash fiction story or an extract of a longer story (let’s say about 500 words maximum). I’ve kept things this simple because the focus here is on finding the energy of the voice and writing towards that.
