One of the benefits of taking a bit of time away from Substack is that I get to read more, which is never a bad thing. I also get to catch up on a bit of cinema. One film I saw recently showed a character creating a code using numbers that correspond with pages and words in a book, in order to send secret messages. This reminded me of a fun writing exercise to squeeze in when you are at home and looking for inspiration (or even if you have gone to a bookshop/cafe or a library to do some writing).

It’s also a pleasing way to make use of the books you are familiar with on your bookshelves, and to grab a little creativity from them in a different way than simply reading them cover to cover.
